Why Do Websites Glow in the Dark?

Small businesses are ramping up their internet presence and learning that websites are the most effective form of advertising for the least cost. By having a powerful internet presence you can leverage your print ads by reducing the size and promoting only the website. The good news? You save money and increase your response to the ad ! Have you seen some of these ads yet? By having a catchy tagline such as
" Why Do WebSites Glow in the Dark?" at the top of the ad, the second line could read:

"Find out at www.Logion.net"

Now there is a compelling reason called curiosity that most people who see the ad will go there just to find out the answer to the question. Once there, then the home page of the site needs to be engaging to their eyes, have a strong "look and feel" which inspires, motivates, or in a subtle way encourages them to want to stay there and browse around. The rest is in how to present the product or service in such a way that it is an offer that they cannot refuse.

Some people may respond to the professional look of the home page and that is enough . Some may want to browse around a bit. Others may want to read every word on every page. The presentation of the site is just as important as the product or service being offered.

In the book, "Submit Now", there is a whole strategy of getting users to click, whether they are on an e-commerce site, or a retail small town store site.

Bottom line: Use a website to leverage your other marketing, increase responses, get creative, and compete more effectively. Then take your business to the next level.

Security Alert

PC Tools has identified that cybercriminals are continuing to target major news stories and global events such as the recent release of Windows 7 and the FIFA World Cup.Thousands of Windows 7 builds downloaded on Torrent and P2P sharing sites contain a malicious Trojan designed to target your personal information and has the potential to cause system failure and result in identity theft or financial loss for the end user. We’re also witnessing phishing attacks targeting the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ Tournament and there’s evidence to suggest that the FIFA related attacks will continue to escalate, as demonstrated during the previous FIFA World Cup when related phishing attacks jumped by 40%.
What you should do to help protect yourself:

Only purchase/download products from trusted sources.

If you've downloaded Windows 7 from a torrent site, you should use your security software to run a comprehensive scan of your computer to check for Trojans and other threats.

If you're not already protected, look for reputable award-winning software such as Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus and Internet Security and ensure you apply security updates regularly.

Avoid clicking on links sent to you via emails and instant messages even if they appear to be sent from a known or reputable source.

Google is the Wave of the Future

Google is the Wave of the Future
The Future of Yesterday but What About Tomorrow?

In an article published today by Time, "Google: The Economy in a Teacup",
Google recently reported earnings which were "extraordinary during a poor economic period, for the first quarter" , states the article. The CEO of Google Eric Schmidt said "Google had a good quarter given the depth of the recession — while revenues were down quarter over quarter, they grew 6% year over year thanks to continued strong query growth. These results underline both the resilience of our business model and the ongoing potential of the web as users and advertisers shift online." See full article> http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1891896,00.html

Google is the place to be right now and the strategy is to get found there, but that is only a part of the story. There's a lot more than "just getting found" ...once they find you, then what? It's all about strategic planning and integrating web site development with internet marketing.

Regarding our focus on web site development and internet marketing, many business owners, large and small are becoming aware that Google may be the most cost effective and efficient advertising solution to attract customers. Not only during this recession, but as a new business and marketing model as we move forward out of it. Of course print media and yellow pages are scrambling for their own survival. I have seen the yellow pages web package and promises and the cost and customers seeking better solutions.....as well as newspapers locally trying to tie in interviews for articles with an advertising appointment. I advised a client recently who called me to defer the advertising portion until "later".

As far as tomorrow goes, what is happening today is shaping the strategy of tomorrow. And with a new administration in D.C. that is very internet focused, this is the Green, paperless, and marketing trend for everyone. Will Google continue to dominate? Who knows. Microsoft finally had to give up somer market share. Google is like the Microsoft of search. Let's see what happens moving forward. In the meantime, they are the best play for advertising and marketing for any sized business.

The Advantages - and Fun - of Blogging

About Blogging

Blogging is finally coming into its own and many small business owners are realizing that it can be an excellent extension of their web site, that when set up properly, allows them to add news and announcements without having the web designer go in and change page content.

Blogging also allows for a more casual or 'conversational' manner of communicating with prospective customers, bringing in a personal touch and bridging the gap between just the standard description of products and services on a web page with a more direct personal message.

Whether its a personal touch or a professionally written article on the mortgage market, or a combination, a blog is fast becoming as popular as having a web site.

Writing a blog can be fun. You can set up a free blog at http://www.blogger.com/ and choose among predesigned templates for your blog. Then it is similar to a Word document. You have a toolbar to add, or resize text, titles, and pictures.

Here's a secret to internet marketing that is good to know: every time you add a new blog post to your blog, Google updates it and when it is linked to your web site it improves your search engine ranking. Now how cool is that?

Blogs can also be displayed on a web site as a widget, which shows some of the text content.

We include a free blog setup with every web site that we develop for a client, if they want it.

Salem Oregon Web Design Poem

Fast track
going down
into town
online and feeling fine
design - and trying
new ideas
with a sip of wine
so, how does one know
what is really fine?
Salem and Portland in my mind
so be creative and sip a latte
at the Blue Pepper and view some art
in between the web pages and marketing
let's all get smart ...
times are changing and we need to be strong
on the internet we can't go wrong
so write a blog, get a site
put your business out there and
"let us do you right.....on"

write on.
